Plasma omentin levels are associated with vascular endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes at elevated cardiovascular risk
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 24, 2019
Hayashi M, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), researchers studied the correlation between omentin and vascular endothelial function. For this investigation, fasting plasma omentin levels were quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and ultrasonography was used to measure endothelium-dependent, flow-mediated dilatation. Among 425 patients with T2D and 223 non-diabetic controls, plasma omentin levels were independently related to endothelial function in subgroups of patients with T2D at elevated cardiovascular risk. Principally in high-risk patients, a protective role of omentin against endothelial dysfunction was suggested in this investigation.
