Physical activity and risk of preterm birth in a cohort of African American women
Women's Health Issues May 23, 2018
Straughen JK, et al. - Researchers sought to examine the relationship between preterm delivery (PTD) and physical activity during pregnancy. They analyzed data obtained by medical record review and postpartum questionnaires from a cohort of African American women (N = 1,410) delivering singleton infants. Findings suggested a decreased prevalence of PTD among African American women who participate in either leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) or stair climbing during pregnancy. However, this protective effect varied by maternal body mass index.
