Peripheral blood metabolite profiles associated with new-onset atrial fibrillation

American Heart Journal Feb 21, 2019

Harskamp RE, et al. – In this study involving 1,892 subjects, researchers retrospectively assessed the relationship between peripheral blood metabolite profiles and new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF). They found that individuals with new-onset AF were older, more frequently white and male, and had more comorbidities vs those without AF. They also noted a correlation between new onset AF and principal components analysis factor 1 (medium chain acylcarnitines), factor 2 (short chain dicarboxylacylcarnitines), and factor 5 (long chain acylcarnitines) among patients referred for coronary angiography.
