Perioperative outcome and complications following single-staged Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSF) using pedicle screw instrumentation in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS): A review of 1,057 cases from a single centre
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders May 08, 2021
Kwan MK, Loh KW, Chung WH, et al. - This study was intended to assess perioperative outcomes and to ascertain the prevalence of major and minor complications following single-staged posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Researchers conducted a retrospective study including a total of 1,057 AIS patients operated between 2012 and 2019 ( 917 females and 140 males). The data exhibited that using pedicle screw construct, AIS patients treated with single-staged PSF had a 0.95% rate of major complications and 1.32% rate of minor complications. As per the results, 0.47% was the rate of neurological complication while non-neurologic postoperative complications were 1.80% with infection being the leading complication at 1.32%.
