Periodontitis is associated with elevated serum levels of cardiac biomarkers—Soluble ST2 and C-reactive protein
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Jul 25, 2019
Torrungruang K, et al. - Researchers explored the connections in systemically healthy adults between periodontitis and the serum cardiac biomarkers—soluble ST2 (sST2) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Participants in the study were 799 people, aged 50 to 73 years. Using plaque scores, oral hygiene was assessed. According to this cross-sectional study, elevated serum sST2 and CRP levels have been associated with periodontitis and poor oral hygiene. Compared to individuals with good oral hygiene, those with poor oral hygiene were more likely to have sST2 > 22.7 μg/L and CRP > 3 mg/L.
