Periodontal status correlates with anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs) in first degree relatives of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis
Journal of Clinical Periodontology May 02, 2019
Loutan L, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed periodontal status in first-degree relatives of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (FDR-RA) and identified an association with the presence of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA). In a nested case-control study of FDR-RA with no diagnosis of RA at enrolment, rheumatological and periodontal status were evaluated. Findings suggested an association of high prevalence and severity of periodontitis in FDR-RA with seropositivity to ACPAs. This further reinforces the hypothesis that in RA development periodontitis may be a risk factor.
