PEAK PlasmaBlade vs monopolar electrocautery tonsillectomy in adults: A prospective double-blinded randomized controlled trial
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Mar 23, 2019
Leong ATK, et al. - In this prospective double-blinded randomized controlled trial, 58 candidates were assessed to examine the effectiveness of postoperative pain and recovery following PEAK PlasmaBlade and monopolar electrocautery tonsillectomy in adults. They observed a shorter time to achieve pain-free swallowing in candidates in the PEAK PlasmaBlade group as compared to the electrocautery group (13.28 vs 15.76 days). They noticed satisfaction with PEAK PlasmaBlade tonsillectomy among candidates. They noted no significant differences in the incidence of postoperative hemorrhage, a daily visual analog score for pain, number of tablets of analgesia taken as well as time taken to return to soft diet, normal diet and activities.
