Patient expectations predict outcomes following distal radius fracture: A prospective cohort study using the TEFTOM questionnaire
Injury Oct 30, 2020
Fang C, Chen YJ, Pun T, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the associations between patient pre-treatment expectations and post-treatment clinical outcomes, and fulfillment of expectations and patient satisfaction, following distal radius fracture. Between 2016 and 2018, researchers performed a prospective multicenter cohort study across three hospitals including a sum of 133 patients admitted to the hospital with a distal radius fracture. The outcomes of this study indicate that the patient expectations independently predicted outcomes at 6 and 12 months post-injury. This study’s findings demonstrate that standardized assessment and management of patient expectations may be relevant to future clinical practice and research to best quantify and optimize patient outcomes.
