Pathological process has a crucial role in sentinel node biopsy for vulvar cancer

Gynecologic Oncology Apr 30, 2019

Sykes P, et al. - A total of 130 females were examined to study the consequences of sentinel node (SN) biopsy performed as a substitute for groin node dissection in females with early-stage vulvar cancer in routine clinical practice in Australia and New Zealand. They recognized SNs in 111 women and 22 had positive nodes. They observed 7 females with recurrent disease whereas 16 had at least 12 months follow up. Only negative nodes were reported in 89 females. In routine clinical practice, SN biopsy was achievable. Although, an association of undetected metastases in a removed SN with groin recurrence might present. In the utilization of the sentinel lymph node technique in vulvar cancer, strict adherence to the pathology protocol was an indispensable component to assure patient safety.
