Pathological heterogeneity in sporadic synchronous renal tumors: Is the histological concordance predictable?

Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Oct 12, 2017

Beaugerie A, et al. - This study was formulated with the intention of analyzing the pathological concordance rate of multiple synchronous renal masses (MSRM) presumed to be sporadic. It also gauged the predictive factors of concordance. MSRM reported low histological concordance rate. Age at diagnosis <60 years, bilateral lesions and ≥3 tumors served as the predictive factors of histological concordance. Nevertheless, it was cumbersome to speculate the pathological diagnosis. Considering this heterogeneity was found to be significant, particularly when opting for the treatment based on the renal biopsy results from a single lesion.
