Outcomes of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients with discordant phenotypic isoniazid resistance testing
Respiratory Medicine Nov 18, 2017
Kim S, et al. - This retrospective review was carried out to assess the impact of treatment regimen on treatment outcomes when patients with rifampicin-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis had isoniazid resistance (INH-R) in liquid medium but isoniazid susceptibility (INH-S) on solid medium. Findings indicated that improved treatment outcomes in patients with rifampicin-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis could be achieved via treatment regimen modification according to drug susceptibility testing (DST) results on liquid medium as it was demonstrated that compared with patients treated for INH-S tuberculosis by discontinuing pyrazinamide (and ethambutol), those treated for INH-R tuberculosis by continuing pyrazinamide and/or adding fluoroquinolone less frequently had unfavorable outcomes.
