Outcomes of foot infections secondary to puncture injuries in patients with and without diabetes

Truong DH, Johnson MJ, Crisologo PA, et al. - A total of 114 consecutive individuals (83 with diabetes and 31 without diabetes) from June 2011 to March 2019 with foot infection resulting from a puncture injury were assessed in order to contrast clinical outcomes in individuals with and without diabetes admitted to the hospital for an infected puncture wound. Peripheral arterial disease, sensory neuropathy, the necessity for surgery and amputation, length of hospitalization, and presence of osteomyelitis were assessed. It was found out that infected puncture wounds in individuals with diabetes often fair much worse with more detrimental outcomes compared with those in individuals without diabetes.
