Oral microbiomes in children with asthma and dental caries
Oral Diseases Dec 21, 2018
Cherkasov SV, et al. - Authors analyzed dental plaque samples (obtained from the occlusal surface of a deciduous tooth) to evaluate diversity in the dental plaque microbiota of asthmatic kids with/without dental caries by 16S rDNA sequencing. They observed no notable differences in the distribution of bacterial communities among both the caries-affected and caries-free children with asthma but Neisseria found in relative abundance in caries-free children with asthma and Veillonella in caries-affected plaques suggesting its involvement in the pathogenesis of caries.
