Oral cleanliness in daily users of powered vs manual toothbrushes – A cross-sectional study
BMC Oral Health Jun 04, 2019
Petker W, et al. - Given that a considerable amount of plaque persists even when adults are asked to manually perform oral hygiene to the best of their abilities, researchers analyzed if people for whom powered toothbrushing is a daily routine show better capability to achieve oral cleanliness. For this work, they asked university students, who either performed powered (N = 55) or manual (N = 60) toothbrushing for more than 6 months, on a daily basis, to clean their teeth to the best of their abilities by their own device. Outcomes revealed that daily powered toothbrushing had no advantage with respect to oral hygiene or clinical parameters when compared to daily manual toothbrushing. Irrespective of the type of toothbrush under consideration, a low capability to achieve oral cleanliness was noted. Hence additional effort is recommended to enhance this capability.
