Optimization of large MOD restorations: Composite resin inlays vs. short fiber-reinforced direct restorations

Soares LM, et al. - This trial was formulated in order to compare the mechanical performance and enamel-crack propensity for large MOD composite-resin restorations of direct, semi-direct, and CAD/CAM approaches. An excellent mechanical performance above physiological masticatory loads was obtained via all 3 restorative techniques. Owing to the use of a short-fiber reinforced composite-resin base, the performance of direct restorations appeared to be as good as inlays.
