Optimal blood pressure thresholds for minimal coronary artery disease risk in type 1 diabetes
Diabetes Care Jul 03, 2019
Guo J, et al. - In people with childhood-onset type 1 diabetes (T1D), researchers assessed optimal blood pressure (BP) thresholds for curtailing coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. Candidates from The Pittsburgh Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications (EDC) Study without known CAD at baseline (n=605) were incorporated in this study and followed for 25 years. For categorized time-weighted BPs and CAD, a dose-gradient connection was noted. In young adults with childhood-onset T1D, the optimal BP threshold linked to minimal CAD risk is 120/80 mmHg. Findings revealed that BP ≥120/80 mmHg was related to a 1.9 times greater risk of developing CAD vs BP <120/80 mmHg.
