One-year outcome of critically ill patients with systemic rheumatic disease
Chest Sep 08, 2020
Larcher R, de Chambrun MP, Garnier F, et al. - Researchers investigated short as well as long-term result of patients suffering from systemic rheumatic disease (SRD) who were admitted to the ICU. They reviewed data on patients with SRD who were admitted to ICU between 2006 and 2016. Evaluation of in-hospital and one-year death rates was performed, and predictive factors of mortality were explored. This analysis involved 525 patients with SRD. In-hospital mortality rate was estimated to be 30.5% and one-year death rate was 37.7%. According to the findings, a fair outcome following an ICU stay was observed in critically ill patients with SRD. Factors related to short- and long-term death rates were: increased age, prior corticosteroid therapy, and severity of critical illness. The one-year death rate was also found to be related to prior health status and conventional disease modifying antirheumatic drug therapy.
