Obesity is independently associated with increased risk of hepatocellular cancer–related mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis

American Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 29, 2018

Gupta A, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis in order to evaluate the correlation between premorbid obesity and hepatocellular cancer (HCC)-related mortality. An independent association premorbid obesity with a 2-fold risk of HCC-related mortality was seen. In men and western populations, this association was more marked. Novel pathways for HCC therapy may be provided with the strategies targeting obesity-associated metabolic abnormalities. Due to the advanced liver disease, there was a limited assessment of competing risk.
