Noninvasive detection of high-risk adenomas using stool-derived eukaryotic RNA sequences as biomarkers
Gastroenterology Aug 27, 2019
Barnell EK, et al. - Researchers conducted this investigation to describe a method for reliably extracting and evaluating stool-derived eukaryotic RNA transcripts for algorithm development that can noninvasively, sensitively, and specifically identify HRAs in a screening population. Before preparing for and undergoing colorectal cancer (CRC) screening through colonoscopy, stool samples were prospectively collected from patients. Investigators found that HRAs are essential to identify and remove owing to an annual HRA to CRC transition rate of 2.6%–5.6%, which means that the cumulative risk of cancer transformation before the next screening suggestion is roughly 12%, given a screening period of 3 years and about 40%, given a screening interval of 10 years.
