New-onset non-infectious pulmonary manifestations among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus in Sweden

Arthritis Research & Therapy Feb 13, 2019

Forbess LJ, et al. - Among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), authors assessed the incidence of lung disease using Swedish register data. They recorded 3,209 incident and 6,908 prevalent cases of SLE. They noted similar incidence rates for pulmonary disease in prevalent and incident SLE candidates. They concluded a higher rate of pulmonary disease in cases with incident SLE and compared to the non-SLE population. They also observed an association of incident and prevalent SLE with an elevated rate of interstitial lung disease. A nearly sixfold higher rate of pulmonary disease was seen in patients with incident SLE vs the non-SLE population.
