Neer Award 2018: The effect of preoperative education on opioid consumption in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A prospective, randomized clinical trial

Syed UAM, et al. - Authors aimed to determine if preoperative narcotics education reduced the consumption following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). At 3 months after ARCR, the number of narcotic pills consumed was seen to be significantly decreased by preoperative education intervention. Also, education resulted in earlier cessation of opioids. Therefore, the current opioid epidemic could be alleviated with directed patient education.
