N-acetylcysteine exposure is associated with improved survival in anti-nuclear antibody seropositive patients with usual interstitial pneumonia

Oldham JM, et al. - In this single center, retrospective cohort analysis, a hypothesis was tested that anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) positive patients with usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) would have improved outcome when exposed to the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) compared to ANA negative patients. NAC exposure was found to be associated with improved transplant-free survival among ANA positive patients with UIP.
