Myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccination in a large health care organization

Witberg G, Barda N, Hoss S, et al. - Researchers investigated the frequency and severity of myocarditis among individuals who had received at least one dose of the BNT162b2 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine.

  • The database of Clalit Health Services, the largest healthcare organization in Israel, yielded data of 2.5 million vaccinated HCO members; the criteria for myocarditis were fulfilled by 54 cases.

  • The estimated incidence of myocarditis per 100,000 persons was 2.13 cases among these patients; male patients between the ages of 16 and 29 years had the highest incidence.

  • Myocarditis was mild to moderate in severity in most cases.
