Multimorbidity and decision-making preferences among older adults

Annals of Family Medicine Nov 24, 2017

Chi WC, et al. - The researchers conducted this study to investigate preferences for health care decision making among older adults. Furthermore, they identified multimorbidity profiles associated with preferring less active, ie, passive, participation among older US adults. They concluded that primary care physicians ought to initiate a shared decision-making process with older adults with 4 or more conditions or multiple condition clusters. Physicians had to anticipate variation in decision-making preferences among older adults and adopt a decision-making process that suited individuals’ preferences for participation to ensure person-centered care delivery.
