Multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and mortality in mechanically ventilated ICU patients
American Journal of Infection Control Aug 31, 2019
Denis JB, Lehingue S, Pauly V, et al. - Researchers investigated how multidrug-resistant (MDR) ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) episodes are associated with 30-day mortality. From a longitudinal prospective French multicenter database (2010-2016), they identified a total of 230 patients who presented 286 Pa VAP. Findings revealed no correlation between the resistance profile of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and mortality. In the multivariate model, 30-day mortality was identified to be independently correlated with the following factors: hospitalization in the 6 months preceding the first episode, chronic renal failure, and Pa VAP recurrence.
