Mortality risk in acute ischemic stroke patients with large vessel occlusion treated with mechanical thrombectomy
Journal of the American Heart Association Nov 07, 2019
Katsanos AH, Malhotra K, Goyal N, et al. - Researchers analyzed aggregate data from all accessible randomized controlled clinical trials to assess the risk of 3-month mortality in correlation with mechanical thrombectomy (MT) + best medical therapy (BMT) vs BMT in patients with acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion. They also investigated potential predictors on the mortality risk and carried out univariate meta-regression analyses. They found 11 eligible trials including 2,460 patients. The pooled rates of 3-month mortality were 15% (95% CI:12%–19%) in the MT + BMT group and 19% (95% CI:16%–23%) in the BMT group. A reduction in the risk of 3-month mortality was evident in relation to treatment with MT + BMT vs BMT alone, as revealed in the meta-analysis.
