Mortality of site-specific cancer in patients with schizophrenia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Ni L, Wu J, Long Y, et al. - Researchers determined the mortality rate of common site-specific cancers among patients with schizophrenia via performing a meta-analysis of inclusion of 7studies consisting of 1,162,971 participants with schizophrenia. They noted a significantly high risk of mortality from breast, colon, and lung cancers among individuals with schizophrenia. Furthermore, male patients exhibited increased mortality risk of prostate cancer, although there was no significant difference. They recommended addressing the differences in cancer care, promoting healthy lifestyle intervention, and administering individualized psychiatric treatment and anticancer therapy during the whole course of the disease.
