Mortality in heart failure with atrial fibrillation: Role of digoxin and diuretics

European Journal of Clinical Investigation Dec 01, 2018

Gonzalez-Loyola F, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the mortality in community-dwelling patients with stable heart failure (HF) related to atrial fibrillation (AF) and determined the relation of drugs like digoxin or diuretic use with prognosis. A community-based cohort study of HF patients diagnosed between January 2010 and December 2014 was conducted at one of the 279 primary healthcare centres of the Catalan Health Institute (Spain). There were a total of 13,334 HF patients. In a large retrospective community-based cohort, there was an excess of mortality in HF patients with AF. Digoxin and diuretics in HF patients with AF had no effect on mortality.
