Mortality, complication, and fusion rates of patients with odontoid fracture: The impact of age and comorbidities in 204 cases
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Oct 18, 2018
Charles YP, et al. - In patients with odontoid fracture, authors gauged the mortality, complication, and fusion rates, depending on age, comorbidities, fracture type, and treatment. Mortality and medical complication rates were influenced by the age and comorbidities, most regardless of fracture type and treatment choice. The main complication, which increased with age was pseudarthrosis. In type II and oblique-posterior fractures following conservative treatment, pseudarthrosis was most frequent. Findings suggested the presence of pseudarthrosis in 31.5% of oblique-posterior fractures and in 24.3% after conservative treatment.
