Montreal Cognitive Assessment as a screening instrument for cognitive impairments in schizophrenia

Yang Z, et al. - Researchers undertook this study to determine the clinical utility of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in detecting cognitive impairments in schizophrenia and its relationship with functional outcome and demographic characters. As per results, the MoCA was found to have marked correlation with Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS) and sensitive to detect both mild and severe cognitive impairments in schizophrenia. Thereby suggesting that for people with schizophrenia, MoCA could be a useful bedside cognitive screening instrument.
