miR-129-5p inhibits gemcitabine resistance and promotes cell apoptosis of bladder cancer cells by targeting Wnt5a

International Urology and Nephrology Aug 22, 2018

Cao J, et al. - Researchers sought for the potential role of miR-129-5p in the development of gemcitabine resistance in bladder cancer cells and its underlying mechanism. Findings suggested the contribution of down-regulated miR-129-5p level to gemcitabine resistance in bladder cancer cells and tissues. They noted that cell sensitivity to gemcitabine could be significantly increased and cell apoptosis could be promoted by restoration of miR-129-5p. Wnt5a was identified as a direct target gene of miR-129-5p in the mechanism analysis. As a result of knock-down of Wnt5a, reversal of gemcitabine resistance was observed. Overall, miR-129-5p and Wnt5a could represent novel therapeutic targets for overcoming gemcitabine resistance in bladder cancer treatment.
