Microvascular endothelial function and neurocognition among adults with major depressive disorder
The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Jul 05, 2018
Smith PJ, et al. - Researchers examined the association between microvascular dysfunction and neurocognition in middle-aged and older adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) in this secondary analysis of a previously reported clinical trial. These subjects were not recieving mental health treatment. Findings revealed an association of greater microvascular dysfunction with poorer neurocognition among middle-aged and older adults. Participants with preserved macrovascular function most strongly exhibited this association, suggesting that it may offer a sensitive correlate of neurocognition that is superseded by systemic vascular dysfunction.
