De Bruyn L, et al. - The bacterial population was investigated in patients with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) after treatment with doxycycline and metronidazole. The authors concluded that in MRONJ patients, the total bacterial level was higher even when treated with systemic antibiotics. The significantly different bacterial amounts of the selected species suggested an alteration in the microbial population.
