Microbial flora and antibiotic resistance in odontogenic abscesses in Upstate New York

ENT Journal Mar 22, 2018

Plum AW, et al. - This study was conducted to describe the current common bacteria found in odontogenic abscesses, the prevalence of antibiotic resistance. Authors also assessed the differences in each between pediatric and adult patients in Upstate New York. Subjects demonstrated the most common antibiotic resistance to clindamycin and erythromycin. This resistance ought to be considered while deciding initial antibiotic therapy, especially in adult patients, who trended toward having pathogens with higher rates of resistance.
