Method of lateral osteotomy to reduce eyelid edema and ecchymosis after rhinoplasty: A meta-analysis

The Laryngoscope Feb 13, 2020

Kim JS, et al. - Via searching MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Cochrane databases, researchers conducted a meta-analysis to contrast the impacts of different osteotomy methods on edema and ecchymosis following lateral osteotomy. They included randomized controlled trials that contrasted lateral osteotomy methods (external approach) with different methods (internal approach), for which the outcomes of interest were mucosal injury, edema, and ecchymosis on postoperative days. The mucosal injury was significantly lower in the external approach in a comparison of the external approach with the internal approach. Throughout lateral osteotomy, the external approach had no significant advantage in edema and ecchymosis as opposed to the internal approach.
