Mediterranean diet and depression among older individuals: The multinational MEDIS study
Experimental Gerontology Jun 03, 2018
Masana MF, et al. - Researchers used a sample of older people living in the Mediterranean basin to assess the impact of adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) on depression. The links between participants' characteristics (including socio-demographic, lifestyle, and clinical features and dietary habits) and depression were assessed using multi-adjusted logistic and linear regression analyses. The characteristics of participants classified as having mild or severe depression were: less educated and physically active, more diabetic, and reported less adherence to the MedDiet. Overall, as a result of greater adherence to the MedDiet and daily tea drinking, a beneficial impact on depressive symptoms seemed to be experienced by older adults.
