Marginal and internal fit of CAD/CAM frameworks in multiple implant-supported restorations: Scanning and milling error analysis
Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research Sep 02, 2019
Uribarri A, et al. - In view of the fact that despite computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology improving prosthesis fit, errors inherent to digital workflow still exist, researchers measured scanning/milling errors and identified factors affecting marginal (MD) and internal discrepancy (ID). Using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), angular deviation and errors in the vertical/horizontal planes were analyzed. Investigators found that errors in horizontal plane scanning are higher than errors in vertical. For suprastructures > 3implants, scanning angulation/milling errors are higher. Scanning/milling errors are related to ID/MD, leading to micro-gap formation, respectively. Before milling the final piece, a CMM decreases scanning errors in > 3-implant-frameworks.
