Mandibular invasion by oral squamous cell carcinoma: Clinicopathologic features of 74 cases

Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Jan 08, 2019

Ahmad JG, et al. - Researchers retrospectively assessed 74 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and mandibular invasion in the University of Missouri hospital to determine the clinicopathologic characteristics correlated with overall survival. A secondary objective of the study was to analyze the effect of prior radiation (head and neck region [PXRTHN]) on the density of osteoblasts, osteoclasts, or fibroblasts along the tumor interface invading the mandible. They noted a lower osteoclast density along the tumor front among cases with PXRTHN. No link was found between stromal cell density and overall survival, but positive soft tissue frozen section margin and maximum tumor dimension were linked significantly to overall survival among those with mandibular invasion by OSCC.
