Management of cancer-associated upper extremity deep vein thrombosis with and without venous catheters at a tertiary care center
Thrombosis Research Apr 10, 2018
ALKindi SY, et al. - In patients with cancer, experts gauged the risk factors for upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT) and the rates of recurrence and bleeding in a real-world setting. The outcome measures included recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE), and major and clinically relevant non-major bleeding (CRNMB). The primary risk factor for UEDVT was determined to be the presence of a venous catheter. Nonetheless, extrinsic compression by a local tumour could be significant for some cancer types. Results demonstrated that maximum recurrent events were not noted in the same upper limb. This data pointed out that UEDVT could assist in the speculation of increased thrombotic risk instead of just a local effect of catheters.
