Management of benign ovarian lesions in girls: A trend toward fewer oophorectomies

Current Opinion in Obstetrics and Gynecology Sep 16, 2017

Gonzalez DO, et al. - This study sought to underscore the epidemiology of benign ovarian masses, highlight the preoperative risk stratification strategies. In addition, it appraised the indications and significance of ovary-sparing surgery (OSS) and examined the effect of management algorithms. A correlation could be noted between the avoidance of oophorectomy with a number of benefits to individual patients and the overall population. The implementation of a management algorithm to guide the treatment of pediatric and adolescent girls with ovarian lesions could result in a reduction of the rate of inappropriate oophorectomies.
