Low serum testosterone is present in nearly half of men undergoing artificial urinary sphincter placement
Urology May 03, 2018
McKibben MJ, et al. - Authors reported the prevalence of low serum testosterone (LST) in men who underwent artificial urinary sphincter placement at a single high-volume institution. As per data, LST was seen in nearly one-half of men with stress urinary incontinence undergoing AUS placement. While in men with LST, AUS cuff erosion appeared to be more common. Additional counselling and evaluation were suggested for men with LST prior to AUS surgery. Experts did not note any difference in patient age, history of radiation, erectile dysfunction, or other comorbidities between the groups. Compared to NST group, body mass index (BMI) was higher in the LST group. Between groups, cuff size and rates of transcorporal cuff placement were similar.
