Longitudinal trends and variation in antipsychotic use in older adults after cardiac surgery
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Aug 23, 2018
Kim DH, et al. - In older adults undergoing cardiac surgery, authors assessed temporal trends and between-hospital variation in off-label antipsychotic medication (APM) use. Highly variable prescribing cultures were suggested in the findings. Concerns were raised regarding the inappropriate use, thereby highlighting the need for better evidence to guide APM prescribing in hospitalized older adults after cardiac surgery. They noted a decline in the rate of potentially excessive dosing, and similar risk factors for any APM exposure for potentially excessive dosing.
