Long-term trends in incidence and risk factors for ischaemic stroke subtypes: Prospective population study of the South London Stroke Register
PLoS Medicine Nov 08, 2018
Wafa HA, et al. - For this investigation, researchers analyzed population-based data from the South London Stroke Register (2000-2015) to explore the trends in incidence, prior risk factors, and use of preventive treatments for ischemic stroke etiological subtypes and to identify any demographic disparities. Data reported that the incidence of ischemic strokes has been declining since 2000 in all age groups but to a lesser extent in the black population. Findings suggested that the identified declining trends in ischemic stroke incidence were unlikely to be solely due to the reported changes in medication use. However, innovative prevention strategies and better management of risk factors might contribute further reduction.
