Long-term results of surgical treatment of Valenti procedures for hallux rigidus: A minimum ten-year follow-up retrospective study

The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Mar 09, 2019

Colo G, et al. - To evaluate the clinical consequence of Valenti procedures in cases with hallux limitus/rigidus with a minimum 10-year follow-up time, researchers retrospectively studied 38 subjects who underwent a Valenti procedure with a mean follow-up of 132 ± 19.6 months. A significant improvement of the mean values of the visual analog score, Foot & Ankle Disability Index, and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Hallux Metatarsophalangeal-Interphalangeal Scale Assessment during the latest follow-up visits was recorded. They also found the gradual worsening of the joint stiffness. But, they did not notice sesamoiditis, metatarsal overload, secondary surgeries, or failures. Overall, they suggested the Valenti technique, a safe and reproducible surgical procedure allowing satisfactory long-term outcomes.
