Long-term outcomes of high-risk or inoperable patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology May 31, 2019
Ichibori Y, et al. - In this review of 114 consecutive patients with mean age 82.7±6.4 years (37.7% male), researchers focused on the long-term results (≥5 years) and transcatheter heart valve (THV) performance in patients who had undergone transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) at least 5 years before, based on annual follow-up. After TAVI, favorable long-term survival and stable THV performance were evident in this study, however, structural valve degeneration was not a rare finding among participants. At 1, 3, 5, and 7 years, the estimated cumulative survival rates were 88.6%, 72.8%, 58.8%, and 45.3%, respectively. In multivariate analysis, a strong association of albumin <3.5 g/dL with increased long-term mortality was found.
