Long-term mortality trends after revision total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Dec 06, 2018
Yao JJ, et al. - Experts evaluated the long-term mortality trends following revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They included 4,907 patients who underwent one or more revision TKA between 1985 and 2015. Soon after revision TKA, mortality is elevated for infection and fracture. Findings suggested that for loosening and/or bearing wear, mortality is lower than the general population after revision TKA but, beyond the first postoperative decade gets worse than the general population. A significantly higher mortality risk was experienced by the patients who underwent revision TKA for infection vs the general population.
