Journal of Clinical Oncology Nov 24, 2019
van Warmerdam J, Sutradhar R, Kurdyak P, et al. - A provincial childhood cancer registry in Ontario, Canada, was connected to birth records to recognize individual population-based cohorts of mothers and siblings of children diagnosed with cancer between 1998 and 2014 in order to determine the impact of the diagnosis of childhood cancer on the long-term mental health of family members. During the study period, 4,773 mothers and 7,897 siblings of children diagnosed with cancer were recognized. In comparison with the general population, Both mothers and siblings encountered a raised and lengthened requirement for mental health-related healthcare. Subpopulations at the greatest risk were prognosticated by demographic risk factors. Moreover, during and following cancer therapy, enhanced psychosocial support for family members is assured.
