Long-term clinical and radiographic follow-up of preaxial polydactyly reconstruction
The Journal of Hand Surgery Jul 13, 2018
Gholson JJ, et al. - Researchers ascertained the long-term results of preaxial polydactyly reconstruction through evaluating strength, range of motion, pain, arthritis, and functional outcomes. Despite decreased range of motion at the interphalangeal joint, functional outcomes similar to the general population were demonstrated by preaxial polydactyly reconstruction patients. Pinch strength, side pinch strength, and grip strength were maintained in the patients. In 15% of patients, radiographic findings of arthritis were seen at follow-up but none of these patients had associated pain. The importance of close follow-up until skeletal maturity was demonstrated by the late angular deformity which developed in nearly half of patients.
