Left ventricular mass independently associates with masked hypertension in young healthy adults: The African-PREDICT study
Journal of Hypertension Jul 03, 2018
Sekoba NP, et al. - Researchers investigated if left ventricular structure and function is associated with masked hypertension in young healthy adults, by assessing 774 black and white men and women aged 20-30 years old in this cross-sectional study. The participants had successful ambulatory blood pressure monitoring readings (>70% valid readings) and valid echocardiography done. An increased risk for future cardiovascular disease was shown in young apparently healthy adults, as they already demonstrated an increased left ventricular mass index in association with masked hypertension. Therefore, early detection of masked hypertension was considered important.
