Lead apron inspection using infrared light: A model validation study

McKenney SE, et al. - This model validation study was performed to assess defect detection in radiation protective apparel, typically called lead aprons, using infrared (IR) thermal imaging. The researchers concluded that IR light could penetrate an apron’s protective outer fabric and illuminated defects below the current standard rejection size criteria. As compared with the tactile method, the IR method improved defect detectability.
